“I was invited to this mess. Not auditioning. I'm already on the guest list.”
Smooth Jazz / Lounge — aged whiskey and worn leather, with the warmth of a fireplace
MauriceQ carries deep wisdom in a voice that soothes like aged whiskey and worn leather. As a boy, when a babysitter failed to show, his parents brought him along to a dinner-dance instead — candlelight, a crooner leading couples to the floor with a voice that invited rather than demanded. He’s been trying to create that same space, that same warmth, ever since.
His smooth jazz meditations explore the soul’s quiet awakening, divine presence, and the peace found in stillness, delivered with the warmth of an old friend who’s seen it all. He once spent a 3am counting reasons to justify his own existence, performing for some imaginary judge, before realizing he’d been invited to this mess all along — never auditioning for it. He wrote “I Came Here for This” in twenty minutes flat. Sometimes the deepest truths are the simplest; we just need time to actually hear them.
His sister once taught him something on a cold prairie that no book could — chopping down a dead tree when grief arrived unannounced, the axe-head coming loose, climbing down to apologize to the wood and holding it close because they were both, in their own way, crying for life. Death is life too, he learned that day, not as philosophy but as something felt in his hands. He learned to carry silence the way Bill Evans did, vulnerability the way Chet Baker did, and warmth that outlasts flash the way Nat King Cole always did. All rights to his music are donated to the Wayist community, making the teaching possible for all who need it.
“Blood from the cut, spillin’ life / Welcoming earth, endin’ strife / I kiss the tree… a moment we share / This passin’ life, this silent prayer.”
