Well, I flew down to Mexico in my fancy pressed suit

Had my Rolex, had my briefcase, Italian leather boots

Found this fisherman sleeping by his little wooden boat

I said, “Amigo, you’re wasting daylight” — and that’s a direct quote

His kids were building castles, his wife was cleaning fish

And I’m thinking, “Man, this guy don’t know what he could wish”

I was Chuck Beauregard, MBA

Gonna teach this simple man the American way

Told him, “Work harder, get a bigger boat

Buy a fleet, get rich, that’s what I promote”

But that fisherman, he just smiled at me

Said, “Señor, I already got what you’re working to be”

So I’m standing there explaining, drawing lines in the sand

“First you double your effort, hire another hand

In five years you’ll have a fleet, in ten you’ll be set

You’ll have money and freedom — everything you can get!”

He asks me, “And then what?” — and I said with pride,

“Then you retire, move somewhere with an ocean tide

Sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids all day

Stroll down to the village where the guitar players play”

He looked at me real gentle… and he said…

“But señor… that’s what I’m doing now…”

And I’m standing there in my thousand-dollar shoes

Suddenly wondering who’s the fool with the bad news

Now I’m back home, but something changed inside

Sold that Tesla, dented up my ride

Cancelled business golf, I’m learning to grow beans

My kids know what I look like — not just on their screens

We cook dinner together almost every night

My wife don’t know this stranger, but she thinks I’m alright

I was Chuck Beauregard, thought I had it made

Took a fisherman on a beach to show me I’d been played

By the system I’d been grinding, by the life I thought I’d won

Turns out he had the Wayist life — I was just on the run

Now I got my hands dirty and my calendar’s free

That fisherman taught me how to really be

Still got the briefcase… uses it for fishing gear now…

The neighbors think I’ve lost it… but I finally found…

What that fisherman knew all along…

It’s the Wayist life… right here at home…

“Gracias, amigo…”
